Emory & Henry Baseball Splits A Saturday Doubleheader At Milligan

MILLIGAN, Tenn. – The Emory & Henry College Baseball Team (6-15) split its Saturday doubleheader on the campus of Milligan University (26-13). The Buffaloes claimed a 6-0 win in game one while the Wasps salvaged the split, 4-2, in the nightcap.

Game One – Milligan 6, Emory & Henry 0 (seven innings)
Milligan got out to a 4-0 lead in the third. Braden Spano doubled down the left field line to get things started. A bases-loaded walk drawn by Chancery Hall made it a 2-0 contest and the Buffs extended the advantage when Andrew Mathias plated a pair with a single through the left side.

In the sixth, MU scored two insurance runs for the 6-0 final score. Justin Greene notched a RBI single up the middle and came around to score on a wild pitch.

Andrei Beal earned the shutout for Milligan, scattering five hits and a walk while striking out 12. E&H freshman Justin Day (Strasburg, Va.) suffered the loss, allowing four runs on four hits and five walks in three innings.

Game Two – Emory & Henry 4, Milligan 2 (seven innings)
The Buffs took a 2-0 advantage in the first when two runs scored on a single through the right side by Spano.

In the third, E&H gained the lead as junior designated hitter Eli Milhorn (Bluff City, Tenn.) and freshman right fielder Ben Williams (Montpelier, Va.) each had RBI Base hits. Sophomore first baseman McCray Sawyers (Stuart, Va.) also plated a run with a groundout in the frame.

The Wasps got their fourth run of the contest in the fifth when sophomore third baseman Jared Foley (Sparta, N.C.) stole third base and was able to advance home on a throwing error by the catcher for the 4-2 final margin.

Senior Koty Proctor (Archdale, N.C.) earned the win as he allowed one earned run on two hits while striking out four across six innings. Freshman Zack McRae (Greensboro, N.C.) was credited with the save, pitching the seventh with two strikeouts. MU's Brock Browning took the loss, allowing foru runs on six hits in 6.2 innings despite striking out nine.
