Milligan Baseball Rallies Past Emory & Henry, 9-6, Sunday Afternoon

MILLIGAN, Tenn. – The Milligan University Baseball Team (27-13) picked up a 9-6 win against visiting Emory & Henry College (6-16) on Sunday afternoon to claim the weekend series, two games to one.

How It Happened
The Wasps opened the scoring in the top of the fourth when sophomore shortstop Kolby Anderson (King William, Va.) drove in a run on a groundout. E&H pushed the margin to 4-0 in the fifth, highlighted by a single to right field by sophomore first baseman McCray Sawyers (Stuart, Va.) and a double down the right-field line by junior left fielder Jackson Lancaster (Keeling, Va.).

Milligan responded to take a 5-4 lead in the bottom half of the fifth as Cade Davis hit a two-run home run, while Eric Rigsby and Josh Lail both had run-scoring doubles. Emory & Henry answered to make it a 5-all contest midway through the sixth as junior designated hitter Eli Milhorn (Bluff City, Tenn.) drove in sophomore third baseman Jared Foley (Sparta, N.C.) with a sacrifice fly.

Three runs by the Buffaloes in the bottom of the sixth made it an 8-5 contest before the Wasps got within two in the seventh when Lancaster scored on a wild pitch. MU capped the scoring in the bottom of the seventh frame on a single to center by Andrew Mathias.

Creed Werker earned the win in relief allowing one unearned run as he struck out five across 2.2 innings of no-hit baseball. Chancery Hall got the save as he pitched the ninth inning. E&H senior Josh Woodard (Culpeper, Va.) took the loss, allowing one earned run on six hits in 1.2 innings pitched.
