Concord Baseball Tops Emory & Henry, 11-8, Tuesday Afternoon

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University Baseball Team (18-10-1) scored seven unanswered runs on its way to an 11-8 win against Emory & Henry College (6-17) Tuesday.

How It Happened
E&H scored in the top of the first on a single to centerfield by sophomore first baseman McCray Sawyers (Stuart, Va.). The Mountain Lions went ahead, 3-1, in the bottom of the fourth highlighted by Joey Duffer's two-run triple.

In the top of the fifth, Emory & Henry scored twice to make it 3-3. Sophomore third baseman Jared Foley (Sparta, N.C.) notched a RBI single to left while sophomore shortstop Kolby Anderson (King William, Va.) drove in another with a sacrifice fly. CU retook the lead in the bottom of the frame when Josh Adkins scored on a wild pitch.

Four runs by the Wasps in the sixth made it an 8-4 contest. Freshman centerfielder Will Jennings (Abingdon, Va.) got things started with an infield RBI base hit while freshman catcher Josh Howard (Salem, Va.) and sophomore second baseman Triston Hensley (Covington, Va.) both had sacrifice flies. Foley also drove in a run by way of a fielder's choice.

Concord closed the gap to 8-7 in the bottom of the sixth with three runs and tied things up, 8-8 on a double to left-center by M.J. Hunter in the seventh. The Mountain Lions scored three in the eighth to complete the comeback as a double by Duffer capped the scoring.

Nick Herrerias earned the win in relief, allowing one hit in two innings of shutout ball. Anthony Stehlin got the save, striking out two in the ninth. Freshman Zack McRae (Greensboro, N.C.) suffered the loss, with four runs on six hits and one strikeout in 2.2 innings pitched.
