Carolina Univ. Baseball Pulls Away From Emory & Henry, 8-2, Friday Afternoon

MOCKSVILLE, N.C. – The Carolina University Baseball Team (22-11) scored seven in a row on its way to an 8-2 win over Emory & Henry College (7-18) on Friday afternoon.

How It Happened
The Bruins got on the board in the bottom of the first as Josh Kent drove in a run with a single to right field. E&H responded with a pair of scores in the top of the fourth as junior designated hitter Eli Milhorn (Bluff City, Tenn.) and sophomore second baseman Triston Hensley (Covington, Va.) drove in runs on a base hit and an error, respectively.

Carolina Univ. tied things up, 2-2, in the bottom of the fourth as D'Artagnan Hawthorne hit a solo home run. Hawthorne put the Bruins ahead in the fifth with a base knock to left field.

In the sixth, CU scored a pair on a single to left field by William Darder to make it a 5-2 contest. Three insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth gave Carolina Univ. the 8-2 final margin.

Geoff Withers earned the win in relief for the Bruins, scattering one hit and two strikeouts over two shutout innings. E&H sophomore Will Clark (Collinsville, Va.) suffered the loss, allowing five earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts in seven innings of work.
