Carolina Univ. Baseball Takes Two From Emory & Henry, 11-2 & 15-6, Saturday

MOCKSVILLE, N.C. – The Carolina University Baseball Team (24-11) picked up a pair of wins to complete the series win over Emory & Henry College (7-20) Saturday afternoon. The Bruins claimed game one by an 11-2 score and completed the sweep with a 15-6 win in game two.

Game One – Carolina Univ. 11, Emory & Henry 2 (seven innings)
The Bruins got out to a 6-0 lead in the first highlighted by a two-run double by D'Artagnan Hawthorne and a single by Josh Kent. Hawthorne made it a 7-0 contest for Carolina Univ. with a solo home run in the second.

CU extended its lead to 10-0 in the third with Kent plating a pair with a base knock to right field. Emory & Henry got on the board in the fourth as junior catcher Nathan Treadway (Valdese, N.C.) drove in fifth-year designated hitter Will Reagan (Albany, Ga.) with a sacrifice fly. Sophomore shortstop Kolby Anderson (King William, Va.) also notched a RBI single in the frame for a 10-2 score.

Carolina Univ. capped the scoring as Matt Martir-Tullock hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield for the 11-2 final margin.

Nate Williams earned the win for the Bruins, scattering two runs on seven hits with four strikeouts over four innings. E&H freshman Luke Kennedy (Irmo, S.C.) suffered the loss, allowing six runs on five hits as he departed the game in the first inning.

Game Two – Carolina Univ. 15, Emory & Henry 6 (seven innings)
The Wasps opened up a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as freshman outfielder Will Jennings (Abingdon, Va.) doubled to drive in junior designated hitter Eli Milhorn (Bluff City, Tenn.). Carolina Univ. answered with six runs in the bottom of the frame as Deion Tubbs and Kevin Greenwood each hit home runs.

E&H closed the gap to 6-4 midway through the second. Milhorn and Jennings each drew bases-loaded walks while another run scored when sophomore first baseman McCray Sawyers (Stuart, Va.) hit into a double play.

The Bruins ran the score back out to 9-4 with three in the second, highlighted by a two-run triple by Bryan Deegan. Emory & Henry responded again in the third as freshman second baseman Zack McRae (Greensboro, N.C.) scored on a wild pitch and Milhorn hit a RBI single for the 9-6 margin.

Six more runs for Carolina Univ. came in the fifth including a two-run double by Hawthorn. Kent and Avery Adams each had RBI base knocks in the frame as the Bruins won by a 15-6 score.

Kole Porter earned the win in relief for CU, throwing three no-hit innings with two strikeouts. E&H senior Koty Proctor (Archdale, N.C.) took the loss, as he was chased after allowing six runs on five hits in the first inning.
