Guilford Baseball Defeats Emory & Henry, 12-9, Tuesday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. – The Guilford College Baseball Team (9-16) pounded out 17 hits on its way to a 12-9 win at Emory & Henry College (7-21) Tuesday.

How It Happened
The Wasps opened up a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first when fifth-year designated hitter Will Reagan (Albany, Ga.) singled to centerfield. GC closed the gap to 2-1 on a base hit by Nick Boles in the second. E&H pushed the margin back to two (3-1) as junior second baseman Eli Milhorn (Bluff City, Tenn.) hit a sacrifice fly.

In the third, the Quakers scored twice to knot the contest as three runs apiece. In the fourth, Guilford pushed five runs across on five hits to go ahead, 8-3. Another four runs came for GC in the fifth with Austin Bailey plating two with a double to left field to make it a 12-3 contest.

Emory & Henry answered in the bottom of the fifth to close the gap to 12-7. Sophomore first baseman McCray Sawyers (Stuart, Va.) got things going with a RBI single through the right side and Reagan tagged a three-run home run to left on the next at bat.

Reagan continued his stellar day with another two-run double in the sixth to make it a 12-9 contest. The Wasps would get no closer as the Quakers held on for the three-run win.

Chase Wade picked up the win for the Quakers, pitching 2.1 no-hit innings with four strikeouts. Ty Clark earned the save, striking out one in the ninth. E&H freshman Brandon Fury (Greensboro, N.C.) took the loss, allowing seven runs on 10 hits in 3.2 innings of work. Wasp sophomore Jackson Arnold (Front Royal, Va.) pitched well in relief, striking out five in 2.2 innings while allowing just two hits.
