Emory & Henry Men’s Cross Country Finishes 10th At 2012 ODAC Championships

PENN LAIRD, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men’s Cross Country Team finished 10th at the 2012 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships, held Saturday at Burtner Farm and Peakview Elementary School. The E&H women all made significant improvements over their season-opening race at the same course, but did not have a team score.

Freshman Steven Machamer (Norfolk, Va.) led the Wasps with a time of 30:10 over the 8K course while freshman Nathan Fishell (Richmond, Va.) and senior Matthew Williams (Stuart, Va.) clocked times of 30:39 and 31:17, respectively. The E&H top five was rounded out by freshman Dylan Turner’s (Daleville, Va.) 31:23 and senior Colin Chadduck (Alexandria, Va.), who came in with a time of 32:50.

Lynchburg College won the team championship, putting four runners in the top seven. The Hornets’ Cody Stanton won the race with a time of 26:16.

On the women’s 6K race, freshman Olivia Knight (Columbia, S.C.) led the way for Emory & Henry as she clocked a 30:59. Junior Olivia Bailey (Chilhowie, Va.) ran a 31:30 while freshman Gabbie Rhodes (Richmond, Va.) finished the race in 32:40.

Washington and Lee University placed all five of its scoring runners in the top nine while Bridgewater College’s Olivia Mills earned medalist honors as she finished the race in 23:07.
