Emory & Henry Men's Cross Country Finishes Third At Maryville Invitational

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Emory & Henry College Cross Country Teams competed in the Maryville (Tenn.) College Invitational Saturday morning, racing for the first time since Saturday, September 15. The Emory & Henry men took third place out of ten teams on the day.

In the men's 8K race, freshmen Nathan Fishell (Richmond, Va.) and Steven Machamer (Norfolk, Va.) finished eighth (30:06) and ninth (30:12), respectively to lead the Wasps. Freshman Dylan Turner (Daleville, Va.) put up a time of 30:51 to finish 12th. Seniors Matthew Williams (Stuart, Va.) and Colin Chadduck (Alexandria, Va.) rounded out the top five for Emory & Henry.

Tusculum College won the men's team title with three runners in the top seven including medalist David Cooper (27:29).

On the women's side, the Wasp ladies ran their first 6K race since the first weekend of the season, but failed to collect a team score for the first time this year. Freshmen Olivia Knight (Columbia, S.C.) and Gabbie Rhodes (Richmond, Va.) paced the team finishing with times of 31:57 and 32:43, respectively.

The women's race was won by Covenant College, taking four of the top eight spots and the individual championship going to Spookie Eaves (25:24).

Emory & Henry will next take the starting gun on Friday when it travels to Charlotte, N.C. to compete in Queens University of Charlotte's Pre-Region Challenge. The meet is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
