Emory & Henry Cross Country Competes At Royals Cross Country Challenge

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Emory & Henry Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams were in action Friday afternoon at Queens (N.C.) University’s Royals Cross Country Challenge at McAlpine Park. The race fields were mostly comprised of NCAA Division I and Division II teams including Florida State University, Duke University, Lenoir-Rhyne University, UNC Charlotte and Wofford College.

The Emory & Henry men finished 16th of 21 teams and were led by freshman Nathan Fishell (Richmond, Va.) as he recorded a personal-record 28:29. Senior Matthew Williams (Stuart, Va.) came in with a 29:08, dropping over two minutes from his previous best. Freshman Dylan Turner (Daleville, Va.) was third for the Wasps (29:24) while senior Colin Chadduck (Alexandria, Va.) and freshman Steven Machamer (Norfolk, Va.) rounded out the top five with times of 30:00 and 30:08, respectively.

Liberty University won the men’s race taking places one through four. David Ricksecker was the medalist, finishing in 24:07.

On the women’s side, the Wasps were paced by freshman Olivia Knight (Columbia, S.C.) and junior Olivia Bailey (Chilhowie, Va.) as they posted times of 24:29 and 24:34. Freshman Gabbie Rhodes (Richmond, Va.) clocked in a 24:43 over the 5K course.

Duke took home the team title while unattached runner Alana Hadley put up a blistering pace of 17:16 to win the event.

The Wasps and the E&H Alumni Association will host the Annual Wasper 5K next Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m., as a part of the College’s Homecoming festivities. Registration begins at 7:00 a.m., between Van Dyke Cafeteria and the Duck Pond.
