Emory & Henry Cross Country Competes At adidas/Winthrop Cross Country Invitational

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Emory & Henry Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams competed in their third meet in as many weeks Saturday morning, this time against a field of mostly NCAA Division I teams. The Wasps took to the course at the adidas/Winthrop Cross Country Invitational, racing against teams such as the University of Louisville, Appalachian State University, Radford University and Liberty University.

The men’s team was led by freshman Nathan Fishell (Richmond, Va.) as he broke the 30:00 barrier for first time this year. Fishell posted a time of 29:43 over the 8K course. Freshmen Steven Machamer (Norfolk, Va.) and Dylan Turner (Daleville, Va.) had times of 30:58 and 31:03, respectively while seniors Matthew Williams (Stuart, Va.) and Colin Chadduck (Alexandria, Va.) rounded out the Wasps top five.

On the women’s side, the E&H ladies continued the strides made at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational last weekend, as junior Olivia Bailey (Chilhowie, Va.) dropped two minutes from her personal best, posting a 5K time of 24:53. Senior Kaitlyn Phibbs (Saltville, Va.) led the Wasps with a 24:35 while freshman Gabbie Rhodes (Richmond, Va.) clocking a 25:37.

Emory & Henry will take two weekends off from competition and will next hear the starting gun on Saturday, October 6 when it will compete in the Maryville College Invitational at 9:00 a.m.
