EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Cheerleading & Dance Teams have released their schedule for the coming competition season. In their inaugural year, both teams will see action in three different competitions between January and April. Led by Head Coach Kandee Wallace, the Wasps will look to set the stage for a legacy of competitive success to an already storied history of cheerleading on campus.

"We are in for an exciting and transitional year with these new teams," commented Wallace. "With most of our athletes having never competed but having an abundance of potential, we are looking to set a groundwork for our programs this spring."

Emory & Henry will take the floor for its first-ever cheerleading competition on Saturday, January 27 at the Cheersport Knoxville Grand Championship. The Wasps will compete at the Cheer Ltd. Nationals at CANAM in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (Fri., Mar. 16-Sun., Mar. 18) and will close out the season at JAMfest Sevierville Nationals on the weekend of Saturday, April 14-Sunday, April 15.

"We have been working throughout sideline season to increase our skill level in both tumbling and stunting," added Wallace. "Now that we are able to get onto a competition floor, our athletes can set higher goals for our team and get a better understanding of the new atmosphere of competitive cheer."

The E&H dancers will perform their first routine at Showstoppers Raleigh Regionals from Friday, February 9 through Sunday, February 11. They will join the cheerleading squad at the Cheer Ltd. Nationals at CANAM and JAMfest Sevierville Nationals to round out their three competitions of the season.

"In recent months we have been working to build a solid technical foundation for each of our dancers that will translate to the competition floor," Wallace continued. "I expect that the showmanship and knowledge of each genre of dance will only grow from here and cultivate our future team and its culture."
