BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry College IHSA Team got the postseason off to a start on Sunday at the Zone 4 – Region 5 Championships, hosted by Virginia Tech. The Wasps finished second in the region as a team, qualifying the team for the Zone 4 Championship in April.

The Results
- Junior Francisco Caba-Guil (Almería, SPAIN) was third in Open Equitation Over Fences and took seventh in Open on the Flat.
- Senior Billie Henard (Kingsport, Tenn.) won her Intermediate Fences class and was sixth at Open on the Flat.
- Sophomore Bobbie Jo Adsit (Montpelier, Va.) and senior Jane Mikusa (Crystal Lake, Ill.) went 1-2 in Intermediate on the Flat competition while sophomore Madison McKinsey (Waynesboro, Va.) took fourth in Intermediate Fences.
- Adsit made it a pair of wins with a victory in Novice Equitation Over Fences while sophomore Maddie Bonner (Powhatan, Va.) was second in Novice on the Flat. Mikusa added a fourth-place award in Novice Over Fences.
- Sophomore Catherine Hill (Roanoke, Va.) took sixth in Walk/Trot/Canter Equitation and sophomore Virginia Jahoda (Waynesboro, Va.) was third at Walk/Trot.
Qualifiers
- With his season high-score, Caba-Guil will represent Z4R5 at the IHSA National Finals in the Cacchione Cup.
- By virtue of their first- and second-place finishes at regionals, Henard, Adsit, Mikusa and Bonner will each compete at the Zone 4 Championships as individuals.
Horse of the Year
- In addition to the accomplishments of the E&H riders, Kirby was selected as the Zone 4 – Region 5 Horse of the Year.
Next Up
- Intermont Equestrian will compete in the Zone 4 Championship on Saturday, April 7. UNC-Greensboro will serve as this year's host.
