Intermont Equestrian IHSA Team Opens The Year With A Win At High Point Sunday

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry College IHSA Team got the 2021-22 season started on Sunday with a convincing win at High Point University. The Wasps earned seven blue ribbons on the day as no E&H rider finished lower than third.

It was the first in-person horse show since E&H hosted the Zone 4-Region 5 Finals on Sunday, February 23, 2020.

The Results
- Senior Abby McCoy (Cogan Station, Pa.) was the reserve champion in both Open Over Fences and Open on the Flat.
- Senior Josie Sumner (Hampshire, Ill.) grabbed a win in Intermediate Fences and was the runner-up in Intermediate Flat while freshman Emma Gurley (Rutherfordton, N.C.) also grabbed an Intermediate Fences win and senior Hayden Wilkes (Shamong, N.J.) was first in her class of Intermediate Flat.
- In Limit Over Fences, freshman Kailey Levin (Cardiff, Calif.) finished first while senior Makalyn Williams (Granville, Ohio) was third.
- Limit on the Flat action saw senior Emilie Fink (Jamesport, N.Y.) earn a blue ribbon while freshman Kendall Madison (Westtown, N.Y.) was second.
- In Novice, senior Daniella Lima (Clemmons, N.C.) and freshman Lizzy Llewellyn (Bangor, Pa.) won their respective classes as junior Delaney Love (Bristol, Va.) won at Introductory.

The Awards
- Sumner claimed Reserve High-Point Rider of the Day honors with her first- and second-place finishes in Intermediate.
- Wake Forest University was the Reserve Champion team while HPU's Louisa Gleckler was High-Point Rider of the Day.

- Intermont Equestrian will be back in the ring Saturday when it visits Virginia Tech for the Tournament of Champions – Preseason show.
