Intermont Equestrian IHSA Team Wins Home Show Saturday

BRISTOL, Va. – The Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry College IHSA Team won its third straight show to open the season on Saturday at home, also sweeping the individual awards. The Wasps posted 20 top-three finishes on the day.

The Results
- Freshman Emma Metzger (Wellington, Fla.) took first in Open Equitation Over Fences while senior Abby McCoy (Cogan Station, Pa.) was second and senior Hayden Wilkes (Shamong, N.J.) was fourth.
- Open on the Flat competition saw senior Josie Sumner (Hampshire, Ill.) pick up a win while sophomore Lindsay Shaw (Newark, Del.) finish second and McCoy take fourth.
- In Intermediate Over Fences, freshman Maddie Anderson (Fort Myers, Fla.) won while Sumner and freshman Emma Gurley (Rutherfordton, N.C.) were both second.
- Senior Makalyn Williams (Granville, Ohio) was first at Intermediate on the Flat with freshman Mia Sisson (Warren, R.I.) taking second and senior Emilie Fink (Jamesport, N.Y.) was sixth.
- In Limit Fences, freshman Madison Couperthwait (Otego, N.Y.) won while Williams was second and freshman Sierra Smith (Olathe, Kan.) was third.
- Limit Flat competition saw senior Sofia Inchausti (Bloomsbury, N.J.) and freshman Kendall Madison (Westtown, N.Y.) each won their classes while freshman Sam Nelson (Taylor, S.C.) was second.
- In Novice, freshman Maddie Whitley (Stuarts Draft, Va.) was first, freshman Amelia Bowen (Wytheville, Va.) was second and senior Laurel Pollock (New Castle, Va.) was third.
- Freshman Laney Stogdale (New Hope, Va.) and junior Delaney Love (Bristol, Va.) were both second at Introductory.

The Awards
- E&H was the team champion while Western Carolina University finished as the reserve champion team.
- Sumner grabbed High-Point Rider of the Day accolades while Williams was Reserve High-Point Rider of the Day.

Next Up
- Emory & Henry will remain at home on Sunday when it hosts the second day of its doubleheader.
