Intermont Equestrian IHSA Team Wins Zone 4 Championship Saturday

LAURINBURG, N.C. – Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry College will have a chance to defend its 2019 Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association National Championship as the Wasps won the Zone 4 Championship on Saturday at St. Andrews University.

The past two IHSA National Championship shows were not held because of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The Basics

HOST – St. Andrews University
VENUE – St. Andrews Equestrian Center

Team Competition
The Wasps earned five blue ribbons in the team competition to propel themselves to the Zone Championship. Senior Abby McCoy (Cogan Station, Pa.) started things off with a win at Open Over Fences while senior Hayden Wilkes (Shamong, N.J.) was fourth on the Flat.

Senior Emilie Fink (Jamesport, N.Y.) took first in Intermediate on the Flat with senior Madelyn Lowe (Red Lion, Pa.) finishing fifth Over Fences. In Limit competition, senior Makalyn Williams (Granville, Ohio) and freshman Kendall Madison (Westtown, N.Y.) won Over Fences and on the Flat, respectively.

Freshman Maddie Whitley (Stuarts Draft, Va.) gave E&H a win in Novice while freshman Laney Stogdale (New Hope, Va.) was third in Introductory.

Individual Competition
McCoy won the individual Zone Championship in Open Over Fences to qualify for Nationals. She also claimed third place in the Cacchione Cup competition to earn a spot at the national championships. McCoy added an eighth-place finish in Open on the Flat.

In Intermediate on the Flat, Wilkes was 10th while Fink was fifth in Limit Over Fences.

In Limit on the Flat, Williams qualified for Nationals with a second-place finish while senior Sofia Inchausti (Bloomsbury, N.J. was fourth.

Next Up
Emory & Henry will next compete in the IHSA National Finals between Thursday, May 5 and Saturday, May 8. The Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center will serve as this year's host.
