Intermont Equestrian Takes Third At The 2022 IDA National Championships

LEXINGTON, Va. – For the first time since the 2019 season, the Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry College IDA Team competed at the Intercollegiate Dressage Association National Championships. The show was again presented by TheraPlate. The Virginia Horse Center and the IDA Board of Directors served as the host of the national championships.

Friday – Dressage Seat Equitation
Freshman Elizabeth Mudlaff (Chevy Chase, Md.) kicked the weekend off by winning the Introductory Level DSE National Championship aboard E&H horse Samson. Mudlaff scored a 74.0%.

The Wasps earned the Reserve National Championship for First Level DSE with freshman Ava Harry (Wake Forest, N.C.) riding Emory & Henry's Bravo for a score of 74.0%. 

In Lower Training DSE, freshman Lina Prillaman (Salem, Va.) was fifth on a ride of 69.0%.

Saturday – Individual Championship
Saturday's action saw five Emory & Henry riders compete for individual national titles.

In the Upper Training Level, senior Sofia Inchausti (Bloomsbury, N.J.) was crowned the National Champion with a score of 73.104%.

E&H had two riders in the First Level competition. Freshman Leonhard Zenneck (Grünwald, GERMANY) was the Reserve National Champion on a ride of 70.468% atop E&H's Uri. Sophomore Lindsay Shaw (Newark, Del.) took third, scoring a 68.113%.

The Introductory Level saw senior Becca Pagnini (Beaverdam, Va.) finish in fifth place (67.657%), riding Samson while senior Makalyn Williams (Granville, Ohio) was sixth in the Lower Training Level (67.019%).

Sunday – Team Championship
On Sunday, the Wasps finished the team competition in third place just five points out of first.

Shaw opened the day with a 10th-place finish (61.571%) in the First Level. Valerie Golden of Otterbein University scored a 71.357% to take the lead.

In Upper Training, Inchausti was fourth overall at 71.121%. Johnson & Wales (R.I.) University's Julianna Marchetti scored a 71.638% to win the level.

Lower Training competition saw Williams finish as the runner-up on a ride of 67.885%. Otterbein's Lily Syah grabbed the win (69.135%).

Pagnini won the Introductory Level with a High-Point score of 72.188%.

Malloot Memorial Trophy
This year's Malloot Memorial Trophy for Most Valuable Horse was awarded to Emory & Henry's Uriah ISF (Uri). Malloot was a beloved Dutch Warmblood Gelding owned by Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry College, who passed away at the age of 24 in the winter of 2018, and was known for his skills both as an Equitation/Jumper and a Dressage mount.
