Intermont Equestrian IDA Team Opens The Season With A Win Saturday

BRISTOL, Va. – The Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry College IDA Team got the 2022-23 season started on Saturday with a win at home. The Wasps also added both individual honors to their success on the day. 

The Basics
TEAM PLACE – 1st/4
LOCATION – Bristol, Virginia
VENUE – Emory & Henry College Equestrian Center

First Level
Freshman Eleni Kangas (Frankford, Del.) won the level as an individual with a score of 70.000% while junior Lindsay Shaw (Newark, Del.) was second for the team on a ride of 67.857%.

Upper Training Level
Freshman Sofia Prieto (Weston, Fla.) grabbed a victory, scoring a 71.551% as an individual with senior Sydney Fryman (Oxford, N.C.) placing third (66.207%).

Lower Training Level
Senior Emily Seaver (Jonesborough, Tenn.) and sophomore Kailey Levin (Cardiff, Calif.) tied for first place on the scoresheet at 65.9652% but the judge's tiebreaker gave the win to Seaver and second place to Levin.

Introductory Level
Senior Kinsey Shankles (Mascot, Tenn.) notched a 70.000% to win the level for the team as freshman Kristen Joyner (Jonesborough, Tenn.) was third at 68.125%.  

The Awards
Emory & Henry won the team title with 16 points while the University of Virginia was the reserve champion team on 13 points.

Prieto's win in Upper Training gave her High-Point Rider of the Day honors as Kangas was named the Reserve High-Point Rider of the Day after her performance at First Level.

Dressage Seat Equitation
In First Level, freshman Derek Holt (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) was second and sophomore Ava Harry (Wake Forest, N.C.) was third.

Upper Training competition saw junior Kiley McGuinness (West Chester, Pa.) earn a win with sophomore Amelia Moore (Klamath Falls, Ore.) finishing third.

In Lower Training, sophomore Scout Curry (Carmel, Calif.) was second, freshman Megan Conway (Chittenango, N.Y.) was third and sophomore Elizabeth Mudlaff (Chevy Chase, Md.) was fourth.

Sophomore Ellie Krzywda (Vienna, Va.) placed first with junior Belen Juarez-Solares (Charlotte, N.C.) taking second.

Up Next
Emory & Henry's next IDA show is next Sunday, October 9 at Virginia Tech. The IHSA Team gets its season started next Saturday when it travels to High Point University.
