Intermont Equestrian Finishes Third At IDA National Championships Sunday

LEXINGTON, Va. – For the second year in a row, the Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry College IDA Team finished in third place at the Intercollegiate Dressage Association National Championships. Otterbein University claimed the team national title for the third year in a row.

Additionally, Emory & Henry brought home the KTB Creative Group Team Spirit Award. This award originated at last year's IDA National Championships and is given to the "team that displays the most school spirit at IDA Nationals. Spirit includes helping others, being kind to fellow competitors, and showing pride in their school and organization."

This year the National Championships were sponsored by Diller Equine. The Virginia Horse Center and the IDA Board of Directors served as the hosts for a second year in a row.

Friday – Dressage Seat Equitation
Freshman Megan Conway (Chittenango, N.Y.) was fourth in Lower Training DSE with a score of 75.0% to lead the Wasps in Friday's competition as Belen Juarez-Solares (Charlotte, N.C.) was fifth in Introductory Level DSE (82.5%).

Sophomore Ava Harry (Wake Forest, N.C.) placed sixth (72.0%) in First Level DSE while junior Kiley McGuinness (West Chester, Pa.) was seventh in Upper Training DSE at 73.0% and sophomore Scout Curry (Carmel, Calif.) took eighth in Lower Training DSE on a ride of 66.0%.

Saturday – Individual Championship
Saturday's action a pair of Emory & Henry riders win national titles.

Senior Emily Seaver (Jonesborough, Tenn.) posted a 69.039% in the Lower Training Level and was crowned the National Champion.

In Introductory Level, junior Skyler Shaw (Orangeville, Pa.) also topped her competition earning the Mary Beth McLain Memorial Trophy with a score of 67.813%.

At First Level, junior Lindsay Shaw (Newark, Del.) placed fourth on a ride of 67.710% while senior Sydney Fryman (Oxford, N.C.) was 10th in the Upper Training Level (62.200%).

Sunday – Team Championship
On Sunday, the Wasps finished the team competition in third place just five points out of first.

Lindsay Shaw got things started with a Reserve Champion finish in the First Level, scoring a 68.712%. Valerie Golden of Otterbein University scored a 70.152% to take the lead.

In Upper Training, Fryman was fourth on a ride of 68.535%. The University of Massachusetts' Isabelle Santamauro won the test, with a 71.466%.

Lower Training competition had Seaver placing fifth (67.693%) with Samantha Rockwell from Mount Holyoke College winning as she posted a 70.385%.

Skyler Shaw took sixth place on a performance of 64.532%. Veda Wetherbee from Johnson & Wales (R.I.) University was the winner, turning in a 67.344%.

Malloot Memorial Trophy
This year's Malloot Memorial Trophy for Most Valuable Horse was awarded to Emory & Henry's Renee. Malloot was a beloved Dutch Warmblood Gelding owned by Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry College, who passed away at the age of 24 in the winter of 2018, and was known for his skills both as an Equitation/Jumper and a Dressage mount.
