
RANDLEMAN, N.C. – The Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry University IHSA Team saw nine of its 13 competing riders earn spots in the Zone 4 Championships Sunday at the Zone 4-Region 5 Finals. The show was held at the Townley Equestrian Center.

The Results
- Senior Emma Pell (Winchester, Va.) won the region championship at Open Equitation over Fences and took the reserve champion honors at Open Equitation on the Flat.
- Senior Ava Harry (Wake Forest, N.C.) won the regional championship at Intermediate on the Flat and Over Fences. Senior Erin Ryan (Seven Valleys, Pa.) was the reserve champion over fences, followed by seniors Mia Sisson (Warren, R.I.), Liv Abbruzzi (Irmo, S.C.), and Maddie Anderson (Fort Myers, Fla.) who finished third, fourth, and fifth, respectively. The remainder of the regional championship for Intermediate Equitation on the Flat went as follows: the reserve championship title went to Abbruzzi and Sisson was third.
- This year's Limt Equitation on the Flat championship was won by senior Emma Gurley (Rutherfordton, N.C.), followed by seniors Grace Reynen (Mission Viejo, Calif.) in third, Sierra Smith (Olathe, Kan.) who took fourth, Madison Couperthwait (Otego, N.Y.) in fifth, and Maddie Anderson (Fort Myers, Fla.) in eighth. Couperthwait won the Region Title for Limit Equitation over Fences.
- Novice Flat saw senior Hannah Ferguson (Newport News, Va.) claim the Reserve-Champion title.
Advancing to Zones
- By virtue of its Zone 4-Region 5 regular season title, Emory & Henry will compete as a team at the Zone 4 Championship for a spot at the IHSA National Championship.
- In addition to competing in both Open Over Fences and Open Flat, Pell will be the Z4-R5 rider for the Cacchione Cup, aiming to earn a spot at nationals and a shot at being High-Point Hunt Seat rider. Moving onto zones in Intermediate Equitation over Fences is Harry and Ryan, with Harry and Abbruzzi moving on for flat. In Limit, Couperthwait moves on for fences and Gurley for flat. Ferguson qualified for Novice.
Next Up
- Intermont Equestrian will next compete at the Zone 4 Championships on Saturday, April 5. Virginia Tech will serve as the host.
