Devan Sproles Named To BSN D-III Team Of The Week

LEESBURG, Va. – Emory & Henry College junior linebacker Devan Sproles can add more honors to his résumé as he has been selected to the BSN Division III Team of the Week, BSN officials announced Wednesday. BSN is the Beyond Sports Network and selects teams from NCAA Division I (FCS), Division II, Division III and NAIA. Sproles is one of six players from NCAA Division III to be named a defensive player of the week.

The Norton, Va., native was also named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Sunday. Sproles joins sophomore defensive back Jason Hill (Hickory, N.C.) as Wasps who have been recognized by BSN this season.

Sproles helped the Emory & Henry defense hold Randolph-Macon to just 10 points as E&H opened its ODAC schedule with a 17-10 win.  Sproles reached double digit in tackles for the third straight week, and now leads the ODAC with 53 total stops.

He made 11 stops from his linebacker position, but also intercepted a pair of passes.  His second interception preserved a 3-0 second quarter lead and perhaps the flow of the rest of the game as he picked off a Yellow Jacket pass in the Wasps' end zone with R-MC on the three-yard line.  E&H scored on the ensuing drive, opening up a 10-0 advantage.

Emory & Henry will return home Saturday for its first game at Fred Selfe Stadium since September 10. The Wasps will host the Generals of Washington and Lee University at 1:00 p.m.
