Emory & Henry Football Holds Seventh Annual Skills Camp And Inaugural Speed Camp

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Football Program conducted its sixth annual skills camp on the E&H campus from Monday, June 25 to Thursday, June 28. The four-day camp drew over 110 participants from the region for the second straight year. The program's inaugural Speed & Explosion Camp was held on Friday, June 29 for approximately 20 student-athletes.

"It has always been our mission here to give back to the sport of football, and to our society by having opportunities to help young men grow in many domains that are stressed in our camp," said Head Football Coach Don Montgomery. "These camps are the highlight of the summer for our staff because we are able to see young men grow, change and become better men in a short period of time. It is very rewarding."

The skills camp and speed camp are both part of the E&H football program's EAA Initiative, or Enhancement of the Area Athlete. It is the goal of the Emory & Henry football staff to help the young men of Southwest Virginia and the surrounding area to become better and healthier football players, but most importantly better members of the community.

Campers stayed in Emory & Henry's dorms and had morning and afternoon workouts with the Wasps' coaching staff and players. Each player was given instruction in offensive and defensive techniques, in addition to stretching, callisthenic exercises, weightlifting and speed training.

The 2012 E&H Football season is slated to begin on Saturday, Sept. 1. The Wasps will travel to Ferrum College at 1:00 p.m. Players will report on August 9 with practice beginning on August 10.
