Paul Forney Named ODAC Defensive Player Of The Week

FOREST, Va. - Emory & Henry College junior linebacker Paul Forney has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, ODAC officials announced Sunday. The Newton, N.C., native wins the award for the first time in his career. It is the second straight week that an E&H player has earned weekly league honors.

Forney led the Emory & Henry defense in holding Maryville to just 166 yards of total offense on the afternoon. It was the fewest allowed by a Wasp defense since September 13, 2008 when the Pride of Greensboro College managed just 152 yards of offense.

Individually, Forney tallied 12 stops, 1.5 tackles for loss, a sack and a quarterback hurry on the day. Forney was also in on the game-changing play, forcing a fumble in the third quarter that was scooped up and taken to the end zone by junior linebacker Evan Williamson (Commerce, Ga.). That touchdown and resulting PAT make the score 21-0 in favor of the Wasps.

Emory & Henry will host to Methodist University Saturday in the Wasps' first home game of the season. E&H leads the series, 7-4, and prevailed last year in Fayetteville, N.C., by a 34-37 score. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
