Emory & Henry Football Announces Week Two Team Awards

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Football Team has selected its team players of the week, Head Coach Don Montgomery announced today. Five players have been honored for their accomplishments during week two's 21-8 victory over Maryville (Tenn.) College.

Sophomore running back Joe Vaughn (Offense), junior offensive lineman Heath Glass (Offensive Line), junior linebacker Paul Forney (Defense, Defensive Productivity and Big Hit), senior linebacker Ross Ellis (Defensive Productivity) and sophomore punter Zach Nedzbala (Special Teams) win their respective awards this season.

Vaughn, a native of Gate City, Va., gained 103 yards rushing on 22 carries and caught one pass for four yards for E&H as he became the go-to player when the rains came at Lloyd L. Thornton Stadium. Vaughn averaged 4.7 yards per carry with a long of 12.

Glass, from Fairfield, Va., graded out as the Wasps' top offensive lineman, with an 85% rating. Thanks to the play of Glass and his fellow offensive lineman, the Wasps were able to win the time of possession battle, holding the ball for 35:14 and putting together a scoring drive to open the contest that drained over six minutes from the clock.

Newton, N.C. native and ODAC Defensive Player of the Week Forney led the Wasps with 12 tackles including 1.5 tackles for loss, a sack, a quarterback hurry and a forced fumble, en route to being named Defensive Player of the Week. He also was selected as the "Big Hit" player. Ellis (Abingdon, Va.) made seven tackles, including one for loss, three quarterback hurries and three pass break-ups. Forney (30 points) and Ellis (28 points) shared the Defensive Productivity Award for the week.

Nedzbala punted the ball seven times on the day averaging 45 yards per kick. Two of his punts went for over 50 yards and three landed inside the 20-yardline.

Emory & Henry will play its first home game of the season on Saturday afternoon when it faces Methodist University at 1:00 p.m. This is the 12th-straight meeting between the two schools with E&H holding a 7-4 advantage in the series. The Wasps won last year in Fayetteville, N.C., by a 34-37 score.
