Kyle Boden Named To Capital One Academic All-America Second Team By CoSIDA

TOWSON, Md. – Junior quarterback Kyle Boden (Knoxville, Tenn.) has been selected to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America® Division III Football Second Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America, CoSIDA officials announced Tuesday.

Boden is the first Emory & Henry player to earn Academic All-America honors since Jordan Erlman was named Third-Team for men's soccer in 2008. He is the fourth football player and first since Chris Miller was selected in 2003 to the Academic All-America Second Team.

In the classroom, Boden holds a 3.97 grade point average, double majoring in biology and chemistry. He has the sixth-highest GPA of the 2012 Academic All-Americans. Boden is a two-time First-Team Academic All-District V selection and won the ODAC Scholar-Athlete Award earlier this fall.

The Karns High School graduate threw for 2,511 yards and 18 touchdowns going 250-for-392 this past season. He is the first-ever E&H signal caller to pass for over 2,000 yards in two different seasons. Boden threw for over 300 yards five different times and twice passed for four touchdowns this year.

For his career, Boden has thrown for 5,080 yards (fourth in E&H history) and is second with 506 career completions. He holds the school record for completions in a game and in a season, set during the 2011 campaign.

"CoSIDA's Academic All-America program is one of the best ways that we as Sports Information Directors can promote our student-athletes," said Joe Matthews, Emory & Henry's SID. "The All-District and All-America awards honor not only achievement in the classroom but also on the field. Not just anyone gets to be called Academic All-America; it must be earned with hard work and dedication. Kyle exemplifies both of these qualities."
