FERRUM, Va. – Five members of the Emory & Henry College Football Team have been selected to the 2012 VaSID All-State College Division Football Team, VaSID officials announced Tuesday.
Junior offensive lineman Justin Farmer (Pearisburg, Va.), junior defensive lineman Scott Hill (Jefferson, Ga.), senior linebacker Devan Sproles (Norton, Va.), junior cornerback DeMikael Burse (Charlotte, N.C.) and senior placekicker Matt Turchin (Salisbury, N.C.) were each named to the All-State Second Team.
All five athletes add All-State recognition to their All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference Second-Team selections. Emory & Henry posted a 6-4 record in 2012 for its first winning season since 2009.
Washington and Lee University’s Luke Heinsohn was named State Offensive Player of the Year while Christopher Newport University saw Evan Moog named Defensive Player of the Year and Paul Dukes selected as Offensive Rookie of the Year. Scott Abell of W&L was named Coach of the Year in his first season at the helm of the Generals.
The VaSID All-State teams are selected by sports information directors of member institutions of the Virginia Sports Information Directors across the Commonwealth of Virginia. VaSID, founded in 1983, selects teams in two divisions (University and College) for 12 sports and three single-division teams in addition to Academic All-State teams across all sports.
