Paul Forney Named ODAC Defensive Player Of The Week

FOREST, Va. - Emory & Henry College junior linebacker Paul Forney has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, ODAC officials announced Sunday. The Newton, N.C., native wins the award for the second time in his career. Last season, Forney was selected for weekly honors after the Wasps' victory over Maryville on September 8.

The 2012 All-ODAC pick led the Emory & Henry defense with 16 tackles (eight solo) and an interception Saturday afternoon as the Wasps defeated the Hornets of Shenandoah University, 37-20. The victory solidified at least a five-win season for E&H for the sixth-straight year.

Perhaps Forney's biggest tackle of the day came near the end of the second quarter. Faced with fourth and goal from the thee yardline, Shenandoah elected to try for the touchdown, but Forney and the E&H defense held strong and made the stop at the one to preserve its 28-14 advantage.

Emory & Henry will conclude the 2013 season next week when it travels to Greensboro, N.C. for a contest with Guilford College. The Wasps have won seven straight against the Quakers, including a 38-10 victory at Fred Selfe Stadium last year. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
