Former E&H Football Coach Lou Wacker Inducted Into The Virginia Sports Hall Of Fame

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Former Emory & Henry Head Football Coach Lou Wacker was formally inducted to the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday evening at the 43rd Annual Virginia Sports Hall of Fame Weekend at the Renaissance Portsmouth Hotel & Waterfront Conference Center. Wacker, along with the six other members of the Hall's 2014 class were on hand for two days of events that also included a golf tournament, an autograph session, and a celebrity auction and reception.

Wacker was Emory & Henry's Head Football Coach for 23 years, winning an ODAC-record 164 games and 11 conference titles, also a league best. The Richmond, Va., native was an assistant coach at Hampden-Sydney College for 24 years prior to taking the helm at E&H.

During his career with the Wasps, Wacker saw five players named ODAC Player of the Year, 136 First-Team All-ODAC selections and 36 All-Americans. Emory & Henry went to the NCAA Playoffs on five different occasions, reaching the Division III National Semifinals in 1987 and the round of eight in 1992.

Wacker is also a member of Hall of Fames at Highland Springs High School, the University of Richmond, Hampden-Sydney College and Emory & Henry College.

Joining Wacker in the 2014 class are Rondé Barber (Univ. of Virginia – Football), Sean Casey (Univ. of Richmond – Baseball), LaTasha Colander Clark (Olympian – Track & Field), Marty Miller (Norfolk State Univ. – Baseball Coach), Ticha Penicheiro (Old Dominion Univ. – Basketball) and David Teel (Daily Press – Writer).
