Emory & Henry To Celebrate 100th Anniversary Of Football During 2015 Season

EMORY, Va. - The Emory & Henry College Department of Athletics is proud to announce that the 2015 season will be the 100th anniversary of football at the College. Several exciting events are planned in order to celebrate the decorated history of Emory & Henry football. 

Established in 1915, the Wasps have amassed a total record of 513-418-19 during the 100-year history. The football team has won 23 conference championships, including a league-leading 11 ODAC Championships. 

In the 39 years of the ODAC, the Wasps have had eight football student-athletes selected as ODAC Player of the Year, six ODAC Coach of the Year selections, 282 First-Team All-ODAC selections, and two players selected as ODAC Rookie of the Year. The Wasps also boast 76 All-America selections and three NFL Draft picks.

Help us celebrate Emory & Henry football’s 100 year anniversary throughout the football season by attending events and donning the new 100 year logo via t-shirts and commemorative buttons. Below is a timeline for the upcoming events:

 

August 10                T-shirts on Sale at Bookstore 
                                                                                                      

Purchase 100 Year Anniversary t-shirts at the Emory Mercantile with 100% of the proceeds going to Emory & Henry Athletics. 

August 18, 20, 25, 27 25-Year Era Stories
                                    

Stories highlighting each 25 year interval of E&H’s illustrious football past will be posted on GoWasps.com on consecutive Tuesdays and Thursdays for two weeks.  These stories will give fans a look at some of the key players and coaches in each individual era.

August 25 Intrasquad Scrimmage and Chalk Talk
 

The Emory & Henry football team will host an intrasquad scrimmage on Tuesday, August 25.  Immediately after the scrimmage, Coach Newsome will host a Chalk Talk for all Emory & Henry supporters who have donated over $1,000 this year. The Chalk Talk will include personnel information and X’s and O’s that the general public is not normally privileged to see.

September 5 Season opener and Sports Hall of Fame Induction
 

Emory & Henry kicks off the season at home against Ferrum at 1:00 p.m.  Saturday morning, Emory & Henry will induct its 38th Class into the Emory & Henry Sports Hall of Fame at a ceremony in the gymnasium that begins at 10:00 a.m. These inductees will be presented to the public during halftime. Thanks to donations from Lynda Jones Hawkins ('66), widow of famed E&H football legend Earl Hawkins ('69, deceased), Earl's friends and members of the Hall of Fame, the College will also unveil the new digitized E&H Sports Hall of Fame kiosk and website. The unveiling will take place in the King Center following the Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

September 19 100th Year Anniversary Reunion
 

Emory & Henry would like to invite all football alumni back for a celebration in the King Center. Commemorative buttons will be available for all the former football players and a few notable football alumni will speak at the event. Select alumni will represent their era during a presentation on the field at halftime. This game marks the first night game in 35 years for Emory & Henry football.

October 10

Halftime Reception for Select Donors

 

Individuals who have donated $750 and above to I-HEY are invited to enjoy a reception at the Brooks Field House.

October 17 Homecoming
 

The Wasps will host Hampden-Sydney at 1:00 p.m., highlighting the annual Homecoming weekend.

October 31 Family Weekend and Senior Day
 

Bring your family to the last home game of the season to help celebrate senior day.  Each senior player and cheerleader will be escorted onto the field by their families in a pre-game ceremony.
