Tre’von Lightfoot Named ODAC Defensive Player Of The Week

FOREST, Va. – Emory & Henry College junior cornerback Tre'von Lightfoot has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, ODAC officials announced Sunday. The Big Island, Virginia native wins the award for the second time in his career.

Lightfoot forced the only turnover of the game in Emory & Henry's, 27-24, come-from-behind win over Division I FCS East Tennessee State University Saturday. On the second play of the third quarter, the junior picked off a pass at the ETSU 36 yardline which set up a 48-yard field goal by freshman Skyler Simcox (Abingdon, Va.).

The third-year starter for Emory & Henry also had four tackles on the afternoon and broke up a second pass. Lightfoot was selected as ODAC Defensive Player of the Week in Week Six last year after making two interceptions in a 34-21 victory over Bridgewater College.

It is the second time this season that a Wasp has been selected as one of the conference's top defensive performers. Senior safety Ryan Byrd (Grottoes, Va.) was named ODAC Defensive Player of the Week in Week One.

This week also marks the first time under Head Coach Curt Newsome that the Wasps have swept the ODAC Football Player of the Week awards, as Simcox was tabbed as the Offensive Player of the Week. The last time an Emory & Henry pair shared the honors was in the final week of the 2012 season.

Emory & Henry (2-1) will open ODAC play next Saturday when it travels to face Randolph-Macon College (1-2) at Day Field. Kickoff between the Wasps and Yellow Jackets is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
