EMORY, Va. – The Shenandoah University Football Team (3-2, 1-1 ODAC) outscored Emory & Henry College (1-4, 0-2 ODAC) by a 23-13 mark in the second half for a 36-33 victory Saturday afternoon at Fred Selfe Stadium.

How It Happened
- Emory & Henry scored two quick touchdowns to take a 13-0 lead at the 10:47 mark of the first quarter. Freshman running back Kendrick Kube (Culpeper, Va.) had a 36-yard touchdown run to start things off and freshman wide receiver Derrick Yates (Abingdon, Va.) hauled in a 63-yard catch-and-run from junior quarterback Kevin Saxton (Monroe, N.C.) for the second score.
- SU got on the board on a 50-yard reception by Cedrick Delaney from Hayden Bauserman midway through the second quarter.
- Junior running back Ethan Atwood (Sparta, N.C.) pushed the Wasps' advantage to 20-6 with 8:17 to go in the half thanks to a 46-yard run. A one-yard plunge by Delaney for the Hornets, however, made the score 20-13 at the break.
- Coming out of the intermission, Shenandoah's Jalen Hudson took the opening kickoff 87 yards to the end zone, tying this ups at 20-all.
- Hudson snagged an 87-yard touchdown from Bauserman moments later to give the Hornets their first lead of the game and a one-yard run by Mario Wisdom made it 21-straight for SU and a 34-20 advantage with 15 minutes to play.
- On the first play of the fourth quarter, sophomore running back Sam Wagner (Marion, Va.) drove in from a yard out to close the gap to 34-26 but the extra-point attempt was blocked and returned for a defensive two-point conversion by Josh White and a 36-26 margin.
- Emory & Henry got within three, 36-33, with 1:01 left to go in the contest on a two-yard score by Atwood. The Wasps were unable to recover the onside kick following the touchdown and the Hornets ran the clock out for the victory.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Wagner rand the ball 10 times for 102 yards and a touchdown while Kube had 90 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. Atwood scored twice on his five touches finishing with 53 yards.
- Sophomore quarterback Dominic Dunnaville (Roanoke, Va.) went 8-for-14 for 169 yards and added 51 yards on the ground while Saxton went 10-for-28 for 136 yards and a touchdown.
- The pair connected with eight different receivers on the day led by Yates with three catches for 88 yards and a score while senior wideout A.J. Hampton (Roanoke, Va.) notched a trio of receptions for 82 yards.
- Senior linebacker Josh Compton (Richlands, Va.) notched 10 tackles to lead the way while sophomore defensive tackle Josh Fleenor (Christiansburg, Va.) had six stops. Sophomore defensive back Eric Johnson (Roanoke, Va.) notched five stops, a tackle for a loss, an interception and a pass break-up.
Shenandoah Individual Leaders
- Cedrick Delaney rushed for 137 yards and a touchdown and caught four passes for 51 yards and another score.
- Jalen Hudson ran for 56 yards and had a 76-yard touchdown catch.
- Hayden Bauserman went nine-for-21 through the air for 190 yards and two scores.
- Malik Sims led all players with 14 tackles while Micheal Wroble notched 10 stops.
A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry led in total offense, 649-376, and held SU to negative yardage for much of the opening half. The Hornets came out quick in the second half and used a special teams touchdown and quick offensive execution to jump back into the game.
- The Wasps were 10-for-23 (43.5%) on third down while the Hornets failed to convert any of their third-down chances (0-for-14).
- E&H fell victim to 18 penalties for 129 yards while SU was only flagged five times for 35 yards.
Notable
- Shenandoah earns its first-ever win against Emory & Henry, moving the all-time series to 4-1. The two squads first met in 2012, SU's first year in the ODAC.
- The Wasps' 649 yards of total offense eclipses last season's 631 yards against the Hornets and is the most since the 1987 season against Samford. The 649 yards rank as third-most in school history for a single game.
