Davon Keith Named ODAC Defensive Player Of The Week

FOREST, Va. – Emory & Henry College sophomore defensive end Davon Keith has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, ODAC officials announced Sunday. The Columbia, South Carolina native wins the award for the first time in his career.

Keith led the league with 14 tackles, making 11 solo stops, six tackles for a loss, three sacks and four quarterback hurries. All of those numbers rank as career-bests for the Spring Valley High School graduate. His six tackles for loss cost the Eagles 26 yards while his three sacks came at a price of 21 yards. Keith's pressure helped force an interception in the early second quarter which sophomore defensive tackle Josh Fleenor (Christiansburg, Va.) carried into the end zone.

Keith is making his campaign as one of the top defensive linemen in the conference and currently leads ODAC linemen with 51 tackles. His 18 tackles for a loss of 85 yards also are best in the league while his 9.5 sacks are just 0.5 off the conference lead. Keith has a sack in six of the Wasps' seven games this year and has also added a forced fumble and a fumble recovery to his credit.

It is the first time this year that an E&H player has been selected as one of the conference's top performers. The last time a Wasp was named ODAC Football Player of the Week was when Skyler Simcox and Tre'von Lightfoot swept the offensive and defensive honors, respectively, following Emory & Henry's 27-24 win over East Tennessee State University in Week Four of 2015.

Emory & Henry (3-4, 2-2 ODAC) will be on the road next weekend when it travels to face Hampden-Sydney College (2-5, 2-2 ODAC) at Lewis C. Everett Stadium. Kickoff between the Wasps and Tigers is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
