HAMPDEN SYDNEY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Football Team (4-4, 3-2 ODAC) made it three-straight victories with a 31-25 win over Hampden-Sydney College (2-6, 2-3 ODAC) Saturday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action. With the win, the Wasps snap an eight-game losing streak at the hands of the Tigers.

How It Happened
- The Tigers got on the board on their first drive thanks to a 53-yard touchdown reception by Cam Johnson from Alec Cobb.
- Emory & Henry answered back midway through the first quarter as sophomore running back Sam Wagner (Marion, Va.) dove in from two yards out to make the score 7-7.
- At the 13:39 mark of the second quarter, the Wasps took their first lead of the day as senior wideout A.J. Hampton (Roanoke, Va.) hauled in a 35-yard pass from junior quarterback Kevin Saxton (Monroe, N.C.).
- HSC tied things up on a nine-yard touchdown catch by Major Morgan and went ahead 17-14 with 54 seconds remaining on a 33-yard field goal by Jordan Chalkey.
- The Wasps retook the lead with their first possession of the second half as Saxton hooked up with freshman wide receiver Derrick Yates (Abingdon, Va.) for a 23-yard score.
- Emory & Henry pushed the advantage to 28-17 at the 13:42 mark of the fourth quarter on a 14-yard touchdown by sophomore wide receiver Jesse Santiago (Yorktown, Va.).
- Hampden-Sydney responded to cut the margin to three (28-25) with 11:13 to go with a one-yard plunge by Cobb but would get no closer as E&H freshman placekicker Matt Seals (Rogersville, Tenn.) hit a 39-yarder to cap the scoring.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Saxton went 19-for-38 through the air for 305 yards and three touchdowns.
- Santiago caught nine balls for 139 yards and a score while Hampton added seven catches for 99 yards and a touchdown. Yates finished with two receptions for 42 yards and his touchdown.
- Freshman running back Kendrick Kube (Culpeper, Va.) led the way with 57 yards while Wagner added 46 yards on the ground.
- Senior linebacker Josh Compton (Richlands, Va.) had a game-high 12 tackles, including a sack for nine yards, and picked off a pair of passes.
- Junior defensive back Jae Daniels (Salem, Va.) chipped in nine stops while junior linebacker Zack Manley (Tobaccoville, N.C.) tacked on an interception and eight tackles, including two for a loss.
- Senior defensive back Tre'von Lightfoot (Big Island, Va.) and sophomore defensive back Eric Johnson (Roanoke, Va.) both had interceptions on the game as well.
Hampden-Sydney Individual Leaders
- Cobb threw for 342 yards and two touchdowns on 26-for-51 passing but was intercepted four times on the day.
- Mike DeMasi had 55 yards on the ground and caught five passes for 24 yards.
- Patrick Kline collected six passes for 76 yards, while Johnson had three catches for 81 yards.
- Bender Vaught and Matt Dooley led the defense with seven and six tackles, respectively while Jamal Woodridge had an interception and four stops.
- Griffin Davis forced a fumble and had a pair of tackles for loss.
A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry posted a 502-411 lead in total offense with 351 yards through the air and 151 yards on the ground.
- The Wasps were once again on the plus side of the turnover battle, finishing the game +3 with five interceptions.
- E&H was just 6-for-16 on third down, but converted both of its fourth down attempts. HSC finished 9-for-21 on third down.
- The Wasps were penalized nine times for 67 yards on the afternoon while the Tigers were flagged five times for 25 yards.
- Emory & Henry had seven tackles for loss, including two sacks, and five passes broken up while Hampden-Sydney managed four tackles for loss and nine passes defended.
Notable
- Emory & Henry wins its first game over Hampden-Sydney since the 2007 season. The win pushes the all-time series record to 38-35 in E&H's favor.
- The 502 yards of offense are the third-most accumulated by the Wasps this year and the most in a win. Saturday marks the fifth time that Emory &Henry has scored at least 30 points this season.
- Over the past three weeks, E&H is +9 in turnover margin. The first five games of the year saw the Wasps at -7 on the turnover battle.

- Emory & Henry will return home next Saturday as it hosts The Catholic University of America in an ODAC matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
