EMORY, Va. – Emory & Henry College Head Football Coach Curt Newsome is pleased to announce the hiring of two new assistant coaches. Tommy Buzzo will be the Wasps' new Defensive Coordinator while Kamden BeCraft will coach the wide receivers.

Buzzo joins Emory & Henry after spending the past four seasons as the Head Football Coach at Brooke Point High School in Stafford, Virginia where he led the Blackhawks to four-straight appearances in the VHSL 5A State Playoffs. He served for two seasons as the linebackers coach and co-Defensive Coordinator at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, Connecticut, a member of the NCAA Division I Northeast Conference.

Buzzo was the Head Coach at Liberty High School in Bealeton, Virginia for 11 years where he was a four-time district coach of the year and twice served as a coach for the VHSCA State All-Star Game. Prior to his entrance into the coach world, Buzzo worked for the Roanoke City Police for six and a half years as a uniform officer and a narcotics investigator. He played collegiate football at Glenville State University and Concord College, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Concord.

"I have known Tommy for years. He is one of the most-respected high school coaches in Virginia," said Newsome. "He was a defensive coordinator at Central Connecticut State when I was at James Madison. He definitely will bring energy and leadership to the defensive of the ball and we are excited to implement his attacking defensive philosophy here at Emory & Henry."

BeCraft joins the E&H staff full time after serving as a volunteer assistant during the fall of 2017. Going forward, he will coach the Wasps' corps of wide receivers. In his first season with the Wasps, he assisted with the defensive secondary and coached junior safety Justin Banks (Coeburn, Va.) to a spot on the All-ODAC Third Team.

While an undergraduate at Liberty University, BeCraft served for two years as an assistant football coach at Jefferson Forest High School, working with the defensive backs and wide receivers. He also spent one year as an assistant track & field coach, focusing on sprinters and jumpers. BeCraft received a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Management from Liberty in 2017.

"Kamden was a volunteer assistant in the secondary this season and did a great job," Newsome added. "So when we had an opportunity to get him on staff we wanted to take advantage of it. He relates well with the players and with (offensive coordinator) Quintin Hunter. The fact that he did such a good job with the defensive backs will give him a leg up in his transition to a wide receivers coach."

Emory & Henry will conduct its five-week spring camp midway through the semester. The Wasps will have 16 days to develop their skills during this non-contact period. The 2018 season schedule will be released later in the spring.
