Emory & Henry Football Cancels Game With Methodist For Saturday

E&H football game with Methodist cancelled.

EMORY, Va./FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Due to the forecasted track and intensity of Hurricane Florence, the Emory & Henry College and Methodist University football programs have cancelled their game scheduled for Saturday, September 15. The game will not be made up.

"While we are disappointed to cancel the game, we appreciate Methodist's commitment to the safety of their students and employees," said Interim Director of Athletics Anne Crutchfield. "Please join us in keeping the University and all of those who will be impacted by Hurricane Florence in your thoughts and prayers."

On the morning of Monday, September 10, Methodist University officials announced that the campus would be closing on Tuesday, September 11 at 8:00 a.m. The Methodist campus is closed until further notice all campus events and athletic events scheduled for the week have been cancelled.

Saturday's cancellation marks the first time since the 1957 season when the Wasps' contest at Western Carolina University was called off due to the 1956-58 "Asian Flu" epidemic.

Emory & Henry (1-0, 1-0 ODAC) will next take the field on Saturday, September 22 when it travels to Rochester, New York to take on the University of Rochester. Kickoff between the Wasps and Yellowjackets is set for noon.
