FOREST, Va. – Emory & Henry College sophomore defensive back Tyler Redmond has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, ODAC officials announced Sunday. The Arden, North Carolina native wins the award for the first time in his career.

Redmond made Emory & Henry's top defensive play of the year on Saturday against the University of Rochester (N.Y.) when he picked off a pass in the end zone and returned it 100 yards for a touchdown. The score put the Wasps ahead 21-0 at the 14:02 mark of the second quarter as they went on to lead 38-0 at the half and cruised to a 52-17 final. The sophomore added eight tackles (six solo), one tackle for a loss and broke up another pass during the game.

It is the first time this year that an E&H player has been selected as one of the conference's top performers. The last time a Wasp was named ODAC Football Player of the Week was on October 1, 2017 when Justin Banks led the team with 14 tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in a 45-42 win over Washington and Lee University.

Emory & Henry (2-0, 1-0 ODAC) will remain on the road Saturday when it visits Hampden-Sydney College (0-2, 0-0 ODAC) for an ODAC contest. Kickoff between the Wasps and Tigers is set for 1:00 p.m.
