BUENA VISTA, Va. – For the second week in a row, the Emory & Henry College Football Team (3-2, 2-1 ODAC) eclipsed the 50-point mark, defeating Southern Virginia University (2-3, 1-2 ODAC) by a 56-14 score. It is the first time since the 1987 season, when the Wasps reached the NCAA Division III Quarterfinals, that they have scored 50 or more points in consecutive games.
SVU is in its freshman season in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, joining the league as an associate member this summer. The Knights were previously a member of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC).

How It Happened
- Southern Virginia got on the board first at the 6:50 mark of the first quarter as Davis Pinkston broke off a 57-yard run.
- E&H answered two minutes later on a six-yard rumble by redshirt freshman Grayson Overstreet (Moneta, Va.) to tie the game. The score was the first of a 42-point burst by the Wasps as they opened up a 42-7 advantage with 10:22 left in the third. Overstreet scored again early in the second, this time a one-yard plunge.
- Two more touchdowns in the second quarter gave Emory & Henry a 28-7 advantage at the half. Junior quarterback Hunter Taylor (Summerville, S.C.) hit senior wideout Derrick Yates (Abingdon, Va.) from 14 yards out for one score and Taylor used his legs for the other, going in from five yards out.
- Returning from the break, Taylor and Yates continued their came of pitch and catch. The Wasps struck on the second play from scrimmage, a 77-yard catch-and-run by Yates and again with 10:22 in the third for a 13-yard touchdown reception.
- SVU's offense showed some life midway through the period as Josh Newman hauled in a 25-yard catch from Pinkston to make the score 42-14.
- E&H would score once again in the third, a five-yard rush by freshman T.J. Tester (Moneta, Va.) to lead, 49-14 with 15 minutes to play.
- The Wasps' gave their reserves an opportunity to play for the second week in a row as freshman quarterback Ander Sloan (Gallatin, Tenn.) found junior wide receiver Max Yates (Abingdon, Va.) with a 14-yard touchdown to cap the scoring, 56-14.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Taylor finished the game 13-for-24 for 175 yards and three touchdowns through the air. He added 24 rushing yards and a fourth touchdown as well.
- Tester went for a career-best 141 yards on 22 carries with a touchdown while Overstreet finished with two touchdowns on 40 yards.
- Derrick Yates had six receptions for 125 yards and three scores, his second three-touchdown game in as many weeks while Max Yates scored his touchdown on two catches for 24 yards.
- On the defensive side of the ball, senior defensive lineman Josh Fleenor (Christiansburg, Va.) put up seven tackles while Overstreet added seven stops, playing both ways.
- Sophomore defensive back Zyquis Law (Charlotte, N.C.) finished with three passes defended including an interception which he returned 24 yards. Junior defensive lineman Deondre Chambliss (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and sophomore defensive back Carter Counts (Abingdon, Va.) both recovered fumbles.
Southern Virginia Individual Leaders
- Pinkston went 15-for-36 on the afternoon for 186 yards and a touchdown and also added 41 yards and a score on the ground.
- Akiva Wedge led the Knights' rushing attack with 68 yards while Newman notched six catches for 80 yards and a score.
- Jacob Taloa made a game-high 11 stops and added two pass breakups while Matthew Blake and Michael Benjamin tallied nine stops each.

- Emory & Henry will return home on Saturday to host Washington and Lee University at 1:00 p.m. The contest will be the highlight of the College's annual Homecoming festivities.
