Emory & Henry Football Routs Ferrum, 59-36, Behind Overstreet’s Record Rushing Performance

EMORY, Va. – Freshman running back Grayson Overstreet (Moneta, Va.) ran for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference record 324 yards as the Emory & Henry College Football Team (7-3, 6-2 ODAC) completed its first winning season since 2016 with a 59-36 win over Ferrum College (4-6, 3-5 ODAC) Saturday afternoon at Fred Selfe Stadium.

The game also served as Senior Day for E&H, which honored their 18 seniors prior to the start of the game. The 59 points scored by the Wasps marked the third time that they have eclipsed the 50-point mark this season and the most since the final game of the 2018 season when they defeated Guilford College, 70-27.

How It Happened
- Emory & Henry freshman running back Princton Hall (Roanoke, Va.) got the scoring started with a five-yard run. Junior quarterback Hunter Taylor (Summerville, S.C.) hit senior Derrick Yates (Abingdon, Va.) with passes of 23 and nine yards to push the margin to 21-0 at the end of the first.
- Both the Wasps and Panthers scored a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter as Taylor linked up junior wideout Gunner Griffith (Bluff City, Tenn.) for an 18-yard score. Overstreet got his first touchdown of the game on a 67-yard scamper with 3:38 to play before the half.
- FC's scores came by the way of a 75-yard pass from Zack Clifford to Ryan Biedleman and a 48-yard fumble recovery by Taylor Brown.
- In the third, E&H pushed the margin to 52-15 as Griffith snagged a 44-yard pass, senior defensive lineman Da'von Keith (Columbia, S.C.) recovered a blocked punt for a two-yard return and senior Matt Seals (Rogersville, Tenn.) converted a 44-yard field goal.
- In the fourth, Ferrum closed the gap to 52-29 as Clifford ran one in from three yards and hit Quentin Wallace for an 18-yard score.
- Overstreet added to his total with an 19-yard run with 5:10 to go before FC's Brian Mann plunged in from a yard out to cap the scoring, 59-36.
- Overstreet rushed his way into the record book with a 17-yard carry over the left side with less than 2:30 left to play.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Overstreet averaged 9.5 yards per carry on his way to his 324 and two scores while Hall finished the game with 34 yards and a score.
- Taylor threw for 225 yards and four touchdowns on 15-for-29 passing hitting Griffith six times for 136 yards and two scores. Derrick Yates concluded his career with two more touchdowns on four catches for 47 yards.
- Sophomore linebacker Ivan Phillips (Kingsport, Tenn.) had nine tackles while senior linebacker Staymon Johnson (Pilot Mountain, N.C.) went for eight tackles including three tackles for loss.
- Sophomore defensive back Stedman Graham (Harrisburg, N.C.) picked off a pass while junior defensive lineman Deondre Chambliss (Chattanooga, Tenn.) recovered a fumble.

Ferrum Individual Leaders
- Clifford finished the game with 181 yards and two touchdowns on 9-for-31 passing. He hit Wallace and Beidleman for touchdowns.
- Mann managed just 48 yards on the ground for a touchdown while Clifford had 32 yards rushing.
- Taylor Brown led the Panthers defensively with 11 tackles and added two fumble recoveries, one he returned 48 yards for a touchdown. Billy Higgins had eight stops while Brandon Scott picked off a pass to go along with sis tackles. Dustin Swaine and Kendall Bell also had interceptions on the afternoon.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry will now await the announcement of the 32-team field of the NCAA Division III Playoffs. As the third-place team in the ODAC, the Wasps will qualify for the inaugural Virginia Beach Neptune Bowl if league runner-up Randolph-Macon College receives an at-large bid to the postseason.
