VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Coming off its first season as a member of NCAA Division II, the Emory & Henry College Football Team has seen four of its players selected to the All-State College Division Teams by the Virginia Sports Information Directors. The teams are voted on by the sports information directors from colleges and universities across the Commonwealth.
Leading the way on the teams was senior running back Devontae Jordan (Bassett, Va.), who was tabbed to the All-State First Team and as the State Offensive Player of the Year. Jordan adds these honors to the Lanier Award, which was given by The Richmond Times-Dispatch in December as the top small-college player in Virginia. During the 2021 season, Jordan rewrote the Emory & Henry record book for a running back, setting nine different records on the year. He led all divisions of college football with 26 total touchdowns in the regular season.
Additionally, three members of the Wasps' defense were picked to the All-State Second Team. Senior cornerback Jaylyn Kreimes (Sharps, Va.) made it three years in a row being named all-state while senior defensive lineman Donovan Pinnix (Eden, N.C.) picks up all-state accolades for back-to-back years. Sophomore safety Addison Knicely (Mount Crawford, Va.) earns his first career all-state nod.
Other major award winners were Tristen Quick of Averett University (Defensive Player) and Randolph-Macon College's Chris Vidal (Special Teams Player). State Rookie of the Year awards went to Nathan Herstich (Bluefield Univ.) and Jalen Todd (Washington and Lee Univ.) for the offensive and defensive side of the ball, respectively. W&L mentor Garrett LeRose was picked as the State Coach of the Year after leading the Generals to the ODAC title and a berth in the NCAA Division III Playoffs.
VaSID names 44 all-state teams in 23 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the Commonwealth.
