ROCK HILL, S.C. - Emory & Henry College sophomore kicker Trace Butcher (Dacula, Ga.) has been picked as the South Atlantic Conference Football Special Teams Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday. This year, the SAC Player of the Week is sponsored by WePlayed Sports.

This marks the second week in a row that an E&H player has earned Player of the Week honors from the league office and the second time in his career that Butcher has been recognized by the SAC. Last year, the then-freshman received the award following Emory & Henry's Week 10 win at Erskine College.

Butcher scored 13 of the Wasps' 37 points on Saturday afternoon at Bluefield State University, going 4-for-4 on extra points and connecting on three field goals. His makes came from distances of 36, 39, and 20 yards helping E&H jump out to a 20-0 lead early in the second quarter.

Three field goals ties the E&H record for field goals in a game, a mark Butcher has now achieved three times in his young career. Six other Wasp kickers have hit three in a game for a total of 10 occurrences first accomplished by Jack Ginn against Washington and Lee University in 1986.

Emory & Henry (2-0, 0-0 SAC) is 2-0 for the first time since the 2020 season (played in the spring of 2021) and will open SAC play this coming Saturday with a trip to Newberry College. Kickoff between the Wasps and Wolves will be at 7:00 p.m., at Setzler Field in Newberry, South Carolina.
