ROCK HILL, S.C. - Emory & Henry College sophomore defensive back Chendrick Cann (Pinellas Park, Fla.) has been selected as the South Atlantic Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday. This year, the SAC Player of the Week is sponsored by WePlayed Sports.

This marks the third time this year that an E&H player has earned Player of the Week honors from the league office. It is the first time this season that the Wasps have seen a defensive player recognized by the conference.

Cann swarmed for a season-high 18 tackles with nine solo stops in Emory & Henry's 27-24 overtime win over Tusculum University Saturday afternoon. He started the game off like he was fired out of a cannon, involved in seven of the first 14 defensive plays from scrimmage.

The Clearwater High School product also tallied an interception in the third quarter and broke up an additional three passes over the course of the game.

Cann is now third on the team with 48 tackles on the year. He has 11 total passes defended with two interceptions and has also forced a fumble.

Emory & Henry (4-4, 2-4 SAC) will play its final road game of the season on Saturday, visiting Carson-Newman University (3-5, 2-4 SAC) at 3:00 p.m.
