ROCK HILL, S.C. – Emory & Henry junior defensive back Jarrell Harrison has been selected as the South Atlantic Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday. The Virginia Beach, Virginia native helped lead E&H to a dominant 62-14 home win over the University of Virginia's College at Wise in Southwest Virginia Bowl VII Saturday afternoon. Harrison tied an Emory & Henry record with two pick-sixes in the victory. Harrison's first return for a touchdown covered 29 yards to put the Wasps up 20-0 and his second came in the third quarter and spanned 21 yards. He added two total tackles and a pass breakup.

This is the fifth time this season that an E&H player has earned weekly league honors and the third for a defensive player. Cam Peoples (Week 0 – Offense), Chendrick Cann (Week 3 – Defense) and Trace Butcher (Week 5 – Special Teams) have also been recognized by the SAC Office this year.

Harrison has made 41 tackles, 6.5 for a loss, over the course of the year. He has five interceptions and has defended an additional nine passes as part of a defense that leads all NCAA divisions in takeaways (30) and interceptions (24). E&H is currently eighth in Division II in turnover margin at +13.

Emory & Henry (8-2, 6-2 SAC) visits Newberry College (3-6, 3-4 SAC) to wrap up the regular season schedule on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Wasps look to improve their case for receiving a bid to the NCAA Division II Football Playoffs.
