Cam Abshire Named SAC WePlayed Sports Football Offensive Player Of The Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Emory & Henry wide receiver Cam Abshire has been selected as the South Atlantic Conference Football Offensive Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday. This year, the SAC Player of the Week is being sponsored by WePlayed Sports. This is the first time in his career that Abshire has won weekly honors from the league.

The Roanoke, Virginia native caught eight passes for 158 yards and two touchdowns as Emory & Henry defeated Newberry by a 27-7 score on Saturday. Abshire hauled in a 16-yard pass from Cole Lambert with 7:59 left in the second quarter to tie the game at seven points apiece. On the Wasps' first drive of the second half, Abshire made it two touchdown catches for the day when he notched a five-yard catch in the right corner of the end zone for a 14-7 advantage.

Abshire finished the year with a league-high 1,057 yards and 13 touchdowns. He caught 51 passes, averaging 20.7 yards per reception, and tallied five multi-touchdown games.

This is the sixth time this season that an E&H player has earned weekly league honors and the third for a defensive player. Cam Peoples (Week 0 – Offense), Chendrick Cann (Week 3 – Defense) and Trace Butcher (Week 5 – Special Teams), Jarrell Harrison (Weeks 8 & 10 – Defense) have also been recognized by the SAC Office this year.

Emory & Henry (9-2, 6-2 SAC) posted their best season since going undefeated in 1998 and finished second in the SAC Mountain Division after being picked to finish 10th in the league.
