Randolph Men’s Basketball Takes Down Emory & Henry, 71-44, Wednesday Evening

EMORY, Va. – The Randolph College Men's Basketball Team (17-3, 8-3 ODAC) got 33 points from Colton Hunt en route to defeating Emory & Henry College (4-14, 2-9 ODAC) Wednesday evening at Bob Johnson Court.

The two squads battled to an 8-8 tie at the 15:12 mark of the first half. Randolph then opened up an 18-point lead (34-16 with 2:58 remaining) and took a 36-20 advantage into the break.

Emory & Henry trimmed the lead to 10 in the first three minutes of the second half, starting off on a 6-0 run. Later in the half, Randolph got 15-straight points from Hunt for a 56-31 lead with 9:12 on the clock. The WildCats would lead by as much as 28 down the stretch (65-37) as they went on to win, 71-44.

Randolph was led by Hunt's 33 points, six steals, five rebounds and two assists. He was 16-for-18 from the free throw line and scored 21 points in 12 minutes of second-half play. Chris Battaglia had 13 points and seven rebounds while Jason Eddie posted nine points for the WildCats.

As a team, Randolph shot 40 percent (20-for-50) for the game and hit 25-of-32 (78.1%) of its free throw attempts. The WildCats scored 24 points in the paint and won the battle of points off turnovers, 21-9.

E&H sophomore guard Tyler Driver (Alexandria, Va.) had eight points and six rebounds off the bench to pace the Wasps, who shot just 34 percent (16-of-47) in the contest. Freshman guard Myles Turner (Richmond, Va.) had seven points, three boards and two assists. Senior center Armando Murrell (Brooklyn, N.Y.), junior forward Charles Smith (Fayetteville, N.C.) and junior guard Brett Pearman (Chesapeake, Va.) each tallied five points.

Emory & Henry will travel to Virginia Beach on Saturday afternoon to take on Virginia Wesleyan College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
