Shenandoah Men’s Basketball Takes Care Of Emory & Henry, 72-60, Saturday In ODAC Action

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University Men's Basketball Team (7-3, 1-2 ODAC) scored 28 points off of turnovers as it defeated visiting Emory & Henry College (2-9, 0-2 ODAC) by a 72-60 score in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play.

The two teams went back and forth early in the game for a 6-6 tie at the 11:37 mark of the first half. Shenandoah then went on an 18-2 run to open up a 24-8 advantage with 6:10 on the clock. The Wasps clawed their way back into the game, scoring 15 of the final 20 points of the opening 20 minutes for a 29-23 halftime score in favor of the Hornets.

After the intermission, Shenandoah pushed its advantage back to eight points before the Wasps went on a 10-3 run to get within one 38-37 with 14:56 to go in the game. E&H managed to take the lead, 45-44, after scoring eight-straight points, but SU went on a 13-0 run for a 57-45 advantage. The Hornets led by as much as 14 down the stretch, going on for the 72-60 victory.

Avery Green had 25 points on eight-for-13 shooting and a seven-for-nine performance at the free throw line to pace Shenandoah. Kevin Lecsaint notched a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds while Jared Carithers had 12 points, four boards and six assists.

As a team, Shenandoah shot 47.3 percent (26-for-55) from the field and held a 42-34 advantage on points in the paint.

Senior forward Charles Smith (Fayetteville, N.C.) collected 16 points and had seven rebounds to lead Emory & Henry while freshman guard Drew Henry (Sterling, Va.) notched 12 points and seven rebounds of his own. Sophomore guard Kevin Anzenberger (Concord, N.C.) registered nine points while senior forward Cameron Coles (Charlottesville, Va.) had six points and five rebounds.

E&H went 24-for-64 (37.5%) and made five three-pointers in the game. The Wasps outrebounded the Hornets 43-36, including an 18-9 margin on the offensive glass.

Emory & Henry will remain on the road on Tuesday when it travels to face Hampden-Sydney College at 7:00 p.m., in ODAC play.
