Hampden-Sydney Men’s Basketball Routs Emory & Henry, 98-58, Tuesday In ODAC Action

HAMPDEN SYDNEY, Va. – The Hampden-Sydney College Men's Basketball Team (8-4, 2-1 ODAC) opened up a 34-point first-half lead en route to a 98-58 win over visiting Emory & Henry College (2-10, 0-3 ODAC) Tuesday evening at Fleet Gymnasium.

The two teams battled early with Hampden-Sydney taking an early 10-3 lead but Emory & Henry closed the gap to 12-10 with 14:37 on the clock. The Tigers then went on a 41-12 run to go into the intermission up, 53-22, and led by as much as 53-19 in the opening 20 minutes. H-SC opened the second half with eight-straight points to go up 61-22 and never look back as it cruised to the victory.

The Tigers placed four players in double figures in scoring and we led by Greg Lewis who had 20 points on eight-of-10 shooting and hit four three-pointers. Stephen Vassor notched 17 points and seven rebounds off the bench while Sasha Obradovic and Khobi Williamson had 10 points each.

H-SC shot 58.0 percent (40-for-69) for the game including a 10-for-18 (55.6%) performance from beyond the arc. The Tigers also forced the Wasps into 25 turnovers, scoring 33 points off of E&H's miscues.

Emory & Henry was paced by senior guard Malcolm Green (Marshville, N.C.) with 13 points, six rebounds and five steals off the bench. Senior guard Stephen Brown (Charleston, S.C.) had 10 points while freshman guard Marquise Coleman (Norfolk, Va.) and senior forward Charles Smith (Fayetteville, N.C.) registered seven and six points, respectively.

The Wasps went 43.4 percent (23-for-53) from the floor and hit five treys but were outrebounded, 39-26, and outscored in the paint by a 56-28 margin.

Emory & Henry will look to get back on track as it faces off against Washington and Lee University at home on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
