Guilford Men’s Basketball Wins, 67-48, Over Emory & Henry Saturday

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Guilford College Men's Basketball Team (8-3, 1-1 ODAC) hit 10 three-pointers for the game as it earned a 67-48 win over visiting Emory & Henry College (1-10, 0-2 ODAC) in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon at Ragan-Brown Field House.

The Quakers struck out to a 9-0 lead in the opening 3:45 of the game and ran their advantage to 16-4 with 11:36 on the clock. Guilford would lead by as much at 16 points late in the first half before Emory & Henry scored the final four points of the period to close the gap to 12 (28-16) at the break.

GC scored the first six points of the second half to spread the gap to 19, but E&H fought back with seven straight points of their own to trim the margin to 35-23 with 14:41 to play. The Wasps would continue to chip away at the lead, getting as close as eight points before the Quakers went on a 22-8 run spanning five and a half minutes for a 62-40 lead. Emory & Henry would trim the lead to 16 in the final minute of the contest thanks to an 8-2 run, but one last trey by Guilford gave it the 67-48 win.

Trever Hyatt led the way for the Quakers with a game-high 23 points, hitting five three-pointers. Matt McCarthy had 12 points, six rebounds, six assists and five steals as well for Guilford, which saw nine of its 13 players put a notch in the scoring column. As a team, GC shot 26-for-68 (38.2%) from the field and had 22 points off of turnovers to go along 22 offensive rebounds.

Sophomore guard Myles Tuner (Richmond, Va.) tallied a double-double for Emory & Henry with 15 points and 10 rebounds, adding six assists along the way to cross the 500-point mark for his career. Sophomore guard Ryan Gravley (Austinville, Va.) had 11 points of his own as he hit a trio of shots from long range while freshman guard Josh Hess (Abingdon, Va.) had nine points off the bench as well for the Wasps. E&H went 35.4 percent (17-for-48) from the field in the game but fell victim to 19 turnovers.

Emory & Henry will remain on the road on Wednesday when it travels to Lexington, Virginia to take on the Generals of Washington and Lee University in ODAC action. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
