Lynchburg Men’s Basketball Too Much For Emory & Henry Wednesday Evening

EMORY, Va. – The Lynchburg College Men's Basketball Team (12-8, 5-6 ODAC) shot 53.8 percent (28-for-52) for the game en route to an 86-59 win over Emory & Henry College (3-16, 2-8 ODAC) Wednesday evening at Bob Johnson Court.

The opening 12 minutes of the contest went back and forth with both teams putting together small scoring runs. Holding a two-point lead at the 8:08 mark of the first half, Lynchburg then scored 11 points in a row over the next 4:04 for a 35-22 advantage. E&H finished the half on a 4-1 run to close the gap to 41-31 at the intermission.

Coming out of the locker room, the Hornets scored eight quick points to push the margin to 49-31 and extended their lead to 25 (65-40) with 12:37 left to play. Emory & Henry would get no closer than 24 points the rest of the way as Lynchburg led by as much as 34 down the stretch before the Wasps used a late run to make the final score 86-59.

LC was led by Austen Arnold, who shot seven-for-nine from the field, hitting a trio of three-pointers, and added 11 points at the charity stripe for 28 points and nine rebounds. Zack Burnett tallied 20 points, four rebounds and three assists while Sammy Hooper chipped in 14 points and four boards off the bench. As a team, the Hornets held a 42-28 rebounding advantage and connected on 20-of-29 (69%) of their free throw attempts.

Emory & Henry placed three players in double figures with sophomore guard Myles Turner (Richmond, Va.) notching a team-high 15 points to go along with four rebounds and three steals. Sophomore forward Brandon Self (Norfolk, Va.) had 12 points and four boards while freshman guard John Shelor (Giles, Va.) added 10 points, hitting two treys in the game. E&H shot just 33.9 percent (19-for-56) in the contest and hit only 4-of-22 (18.2%) of its three-point opportunities.

The Wasps will remain at home on Saturday when they play host to the No. 8 Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan College at 2:00 p.m.
