MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Maryville (Tenn.) College Men's Basketball Team (3-0) needed an extra five minutes Wednesday afternoon, but came away with a 77-74 win over Emory & Henry College. The Wasps trailed by as much as 16 points in the first half, but battled back after the break to force the overtime period.

How It Happened
- Maryville scored the first 10 points of the game and used a 10-2 run over 1:54 midway through the half to extend the lead to 27-11. The Wasps responded with a 16-6 run over the next 5:48 to close the gap to 33-27 and scored the final three points of the half to go into the break down just 30-25.
- Coming out of the intermission, the Scots opened with a 5-0 run to push their lead back to double figures but E&H put up 11 of the next 13 points to make the score 42-41 with 13:30 left on the clock.
- MC held a slim lead for the next 10 minutes as it was mostly a one or two-possession game. Emory & Henry took its first lead of the contest at the 2:30 mark when freshman guard Colin Molden (Apex, N.C.) hit a three-pointer for a 63-62 advantage.
- Sophomore forward Aaron Ferguson (Princeton, W.Va.) gave the Wasps a two-point lead with a free throw at the 2:03 mark but the Scots tied things up at 64 with a jumper by Colt Nokes. Both teams had chances in the final 90 seconds to get ahead, but the game would go into overtime tied, 64-64.
- The extra period featured two ties and seven lead changes. Molden put E&H ahead for the final time, 74-73, before Maryville scored the final four points of the game to escape with the 77-73 victory.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Molden led all players with 23 points on 9-for-18 shooting and added five rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block.
- Senior guard Myles Turner (Richmond, Va.) had 11 points, three rebounds and three steals while junior forward Chase Branscomb (Bristol, Tenn.) chipped in 11 points, five boards and for steals.
- Ferguson tacked on 10 points and four rebounds off the bench while sophomore forward Alic Wynn (Asheville, N.C.) had eight points and a team-high 11 boards.
Maryville Individual Leaders
- Calvin Songster led MC with 19 points, going six-for-14 from the field with four three-pointers, and adding three rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block.
- Nokes posted a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds, blocking three shots, while Joshua Brooks tacked on 11 points, three assists and three steals off the bench.
- Tyler Spicer and Emanuelle Garcia each scored eight points as Spicer contributed seven rebounds and four assists.
A Deeper Look
- Maryville hit 41.9 percent (26-for-62) of its field goal attempts, while E&H connected on 26-of-71 (36.6%) of its shots. The Scots held a 10-5 advantage on three pointers despite taking half of their attempts from the floor (31) beyond the arc.
- E&H led 34-26 on points in the paint, and 19 offensive rebounds translated into an 18-15 lead on second-chance points.
- The Wasps scored 20 points off 19 Scots turnovers, and held a 10-2 advantage on fast-break points.
Notable
- The meeting between Emory & Henry and Maryville is the fourth in the past three years. While the Scots hold a 3-1 record in these games, the largest margin of victory was the Wasps' 91-78 win at home on November 24 last year.
