Emory & Henry Men’s Basketball Defeats Albright, 71-61, Monday In Puerto Rico Clásico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – The Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team (6-4) finished its trip to the Caribbean with a victory, defeating Albright College (5-4) by a 71-61 score Monday afternoon in the Puerto Rico Clásico.

How It Happened
- Albright took an early lead but Emory & Henry went on a 9-1 run over the next 1:47 to go up 14-9 with 13:46 on the clock. The two teams traded baskets for the rest of the half and the Wasps went into the intermission with a 28-22 advantage.
- The game remained close after the break and although E&H led the entire way, Albright would not let the contest get out of hand. Emory & Henry got its first double-digit lead, 47-36, at the 9:41 mark of the half but it was immediately trimmed to a two-possession game by AC.
- The Wasps pressed their advantage and would flirt with a 10-point advantage for the remaineder of the game as they scored the final four points to win, 71-61.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior guard Myles Turner (Richmond, Va.) led all players with 16 points and added four rebounds as he went nine-for-10 from the free throw line.
- Junior guard John Shelor (Giles, Va.) had 13 points and five boards, hitting a trio of three-pointers while freshman guard Colin Molden (Apex, N.C.) also pitched in 13 points, two rebounds and two assists.
- Junior forward Chase Branscomb (Bristol, Tenn.) notched eight points and 10 rebounds while sophomore forward Aaron Ferguson (Princeton, W.Va.) chipped in eight points and three rebounds off the bench.

Albright Individual Leaders
- Fred Rowles had 11 points off the bench to lead the Lions and added four rebounds and two assists.
- DeJuan Smith contributed 10 points, six rebounds and five steals while Calvert Gantz and Brandon Lindsay added eight points each. 

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry connected on 46.2 percent (24-for-52) of its field goal attempts and hit five three-pointers. The Wasps went 18-for-23 (78.3%) from the free throw line as well in the game.
- The Lions hit on just 22-of-59 of their shots (37.3%) and were 63.2 percent (12-for-19) from the charity stripe.
- E&H held a 38-35 rebounding advantage, but the battle for the offensive glass favored Albright as it used 13 offensive boards for 14 second-chance points to nine for the Wasps.
- Both teams scored 19 points off the other's errors as Albright committed 12 turnovers and Emory & Henry had 15 miscues.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry will return to the court after a break for the holidays to host Southern Virginia University on Friday, December 30 at 7:00 p.m.
