Emory & Henry Men’s Basketball Defeats Eastern Mennonite, 74-56, In Regular Season Finale

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry Men's Basketball Team (19-6, 11-5 ODAC) got back on the winning track Saturday afternoon with a 74-56 victory over Eastern Mennonite University (10-14, 5-11 ODAC) in the final game of the regular season.  With the victory, the Wasps finish in a four-way tie for second place in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference with Roanoke College, Virginia Wesleyan University and Washington and Lee University.

How It Happened
- Emory & Henry built an early 11-5 lead at the 15:33 mark of the opening half but seven in a row by Eastern Mennonite made it 12-11 less than two minutes later.
- The Wasps gained momentum thanks to a 19-3 run for a 30-15 advantage with 7:06 on the clock, and would go into the locker room up 43-26.
- Coming out of the break, E&H scored eight of the first 12 points of the period for its first 20-point lead of the contest, 51-30. The Royals carved into the margin, getting to within 12 points (57-45) but the Wasps responded to push the lead back to 20 with 4:29 to play.
- Emory & Henry held its own through the final minutes of the contest for the 74-56 victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Junior guard Alic Wynn (Asheville, N.C.) led the way with a double-double, putting up 18 points and pulling down 12 rebounds as he went 8-for-12 from the field.
- Sophomore guard Daniel Spencer (Concord, N.C.) had 14 points, eight boards, three steals and two assists while senior forward Chase Branscomb (Bristol, Tenn.) notched 12 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three steals.
- Freshman guard Tharon Suggs (Raleigh, N.C.) contributed 12 points.

Eastern Mennonite Individual Leaders
- D.J. Hill notched 12 points off the bench, going 4-for-7 from the floor while Isaiah Harris-Winn had 11 points.

 A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 31-of-75 (41.3%) for the game with a trio of three-pointers. The Wasps made 60 percent (9-of-15) of their foul shots.
- Eastern Mennonite hit 40 percent (20-of-50) of its field goal attempts with four makes from long distance. The Royals scored 12 points at the charity stripe, with a 52.2 shooting percentage.
- EMU posted a 45-40 rebounding advantage but E&H held a 10-7 margin on second-chance points.
- The Wasps led 28-4 on points off turnovers, forcing the Royals into 24 miscues while committing only eight turnovers of their own.
- Emory & Henry dominated inside with a 42-28 margin on points in the paint.

- Emory & Henry will await the announcement of the pairings for the 2018 ODAC Tournament which will be released by the league office on Saturday evening.
